Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Free import (by passengers of 18 years of age and over):
- 400 cigarettes or 500 grammes of cigars or other tobacco products;
- 1/4 litre of eau de toilette or 0.05 litre of perfume, aftershave or similar products;
- 2 litres of wine and 1 litre of spirits;
- personal property such as wearing apparel (used);
- general items for personal use, gifts or souvenirs up to a total value of USD 500,-
Prohibited and restricted goods:
- firearms, ammunition or explosive materials;
- medicines and foodstuffs dangerous to health or drugs or substances in any form;
- pornographic material;
- plants originating in infected areas;
- gaming machines;
- pure alcohol (denatured);
- animals, any parts of animals or animal products without the corresponding certificates;
- fiscal or postal stamps or valuables.
Warning: passengers carrying goods in quantities exceeding duty free allowances or prohibited or restricted goods must contact customs officer on duty immediately. All such goods must be declared.
Arms and Ammunition regulations::
Firearms, ammunition or explosive materials are prohibited.
Pets::
Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate. Also a rabies inoculation certificate issued within four months preceding arrival.
Baggage Clearance regulations::
Baggage is cleared at the airport of the final destination in Angola.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Angola.
Airport Embarkation Tax
No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
Currency rules
Currency Import regulations:
1. Residents:
a. Local currency (New Kwanza-AOA): prohibited.
b. Foreign currencies: no restrictions, but declaration must be made to the B.N.A./D.O.I. ("Banco Nacional de Angola/Direcçao Operaçoes Internacionais") within 24 hours after arrival.
2. Non Residents:
a. Local currency : max. AOA 15,000.-.
b. Foreign currencies: no restrictions, however, declaration to the customs on arrival is obligatory.
Currency Export regulations:
1. Residents:
a. Local currency (New Kwanza-AOA): prohibited.
b. Foreign currencies: up to USD 10,000.- or equivalent in freely convertible currency.
2. Non-residents:
a. Local currency (New Kwanza-AOA): prohibited.
b. Foreign currencies: up to USD 5000.- or equivalent in freely convertible currency; amounts exceeding USD 5000.- or its equivalent in another currency must be declared.
Warning: Failure to do so may result in confiscation of the money.
3. Those travelling with return tickets issued in Angola:
a. Local currency (New Kwanza-AOA): prohibited.
b. Foreign currencies: up to the equivalent of AOA 5,000.- per year
4. Other travellers: foreign currencies:
a. If holding a letter from a company or entity which took care of payment of all expenses during stay in Angola: up to the amount imported. The letter must have been certified by B.N.A./D.O.I.;
b. In all other cases: all amounts left with receipts of bills paid or money exchange vouchers.
Note: because Angola has been at war and regulations change on a daily basis, currency regulations will not be enforced strictly.
