Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Free import by persons of 16 years and older:
- 1000 cigarettes or 1000 grammes of tobacco products;
- 1 1/2 litres of alcoholic beverages and 2 litres of wine;
- a reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use;
- Residents: goods up to an amount of USD 10,000.- for personal use only;
- Non-residents: goods up to an amount of USD 10,000.-.
Additional Information on regulations::
Prohibited: Photographs and printed matter directed against Azerbaijan, live animals (subject to special permit), military arms and ammunition, narcotics (opium, hashish, etc.), fruit and vegetables.
No special permit is required for import of a video camera for personal use, provided declared on arrival and re-exported. The customs declaration, which will be filled out on entry of Azerbaijan (or any other C.I.S. country) must be kept carefully. When leaving Azerbaijan this declaration has to be handed over, even when travelling to other C.I.S. countries.
Export regulations::
Prohibited: Arms, ammunition, precious metals (gold, silver, etc.) and articles made thereof (also if containing precious stones and/or real pearls), antiquities and art objects (subject to duty and special permit from the ministry of culture), furs.
Except if such articles belong to the imported personal effects of the passenger (e.g. personal jewelry) and have been declared upon arrival.
Crew members customs regulations::
Same regulations as for passengers apply.
Pets::
Cats, dogs and birds (except pigeons) must be accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate bearing seal of local board of health and not be issued over ten days prior to arrival. Pigeons are prohibited entry. Pets may enter as passenger's checked baggage, in the cabin or as cargo. Generally pets are not permitted in hotels.
Baggage Clearance regulations::
Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in Azerbaijan.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of the C.I.S.
Airport Embarkation Tax
No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
Currency rules
Currency Import regulations:
1. Residents:
a. Local currency (New Azeri Manat-AZN): allowed, provided the amount has been declared on the customs declaration when leaving the country.
b. Foreign currencies: unlimited provided a declaration stamped by Customs at Baku is made.
2. Non-residents:
Foreign currencies: unlimited provided a declaration stamped by Customs at Baku is made.
Currency Export regulations:
1. Residents:
a. Local currency (New Azeri Manat-AZN): no restrictions provided the amount is declared on departure.
b. Foreign currencies: max. USD 10,000.- (or equivalent). All amounts higher than USD 1,000.- are subject to tax (1%). Amounts higher than USD 10,000.- have to be approved by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
2. Non-residents: up to the amount imported and declared (proof of import must be presented otherwise a max. of USD 1,000.- may be exported).
