Customs Rules

Import regulations::

Free import
1. to passengers arriving with goods purchased within the E.U. which are for personal use only:
a. tobacco products , for passengers aged 17 and over:
- 800 cigarettes;
- 400 cigarillos;
- 200 cigars;
- 1kg of pipe or cigarette tobacco;
b. alcoholic beverages, for passengers aged 17 years and older:
- 10 litres of spirits over 22%;
- 20 litres of alcoholic beverages less than 22%;
- 90 litres of wine (though no more than 60 litres of sparkling wine);
- 110 litres of beer;
2. to passengers arriving from non-E.U. countries (including the Aland Islands, Canary Islands, Channel Islands and other similar territories):
a. tobacco products, for passengers aged 17 years and over:
- 200 cigarettes; or
- 100 cigarillos; or
- 50 cigars; or
- 250g tobacco;
b. alcoholic beverages, for passengers aged 17 years and older:
- 1 litre of spirits over 22%; or
- 2 litres of a dessert wine not exceeding 22% and sparkling wine; and
- 2 litres of table wine;
c.50 g perfume; or
250ml eau de toilette;
d. for passengers aged 15 years and older:
- 500g coffee; or
- 200g of coffee extract;
e.100g tea; or
- 40g tea extract;
f. other goods (for non-commercial purposes only, e.g. holiday souvenirs):
up to the value of EUR175.-.

For military and civil personnel of the Armed Forces, including their families and for flying personnel of air transport companies the following quantities can be imported free if declared to Customs:

 - 100 cigarettes or 25 cigars or 50 cigarillos or 125 grams of tobacco (products);
 - 0.25 litre of spirits or 0.50 litre of sparkling wine and 1 litre of still wine;
 - 7.5 grams of perfume and 0.125 litre of eau de toilette, Eau de Cologne etc.;
 - 500 grams of coffee or 200 grams of coffee extract;
 - 100 grams of tea or 40 grams of tea extract;
 - other goods valued up to EUR 19.83.

Certain regulations apply to tobacco products imported from Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovak Rep.:
a. Estonia (until end 2009): 200 cigarettes or 250 g of tobacco products.;
b. Bulgaria (until end 2009), Hungary (until end 2008), Latvia, (until end 2009) Lithuania (until end 2009), Poland (until end 2008), Romania (until end 2009), Slovak Rep. (until end 2008): 200 cigarettes.

Free import to passengers arriving from non-E.U. countries (including the Aland Islands, Canary Islands, Channel Islands and other similar territories) :
1. tobacco products, for passengers aged 17 and older:
 - 200 cigarettes; or
 - 100 cigarillos (max. 3g each); or
 - 50 cigars; or
 - 250g of tobacco; or
 - proportional assortment; 
2. alcoholic beverages, for passengers aged 17 and older:
 - 1 litre of spirits over 22% volume, or non-denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80% volume; or
 - 2 litres of spirits or aperitifs made of wine or similar beverages less than 22% volume, or sparkling wines or liqueur wines; or
 - a proportional mix of these products; and in addition
 - 4 litres of wine; and
 - 16 litres of beer;
3. medicinal products sufficient for personal needs;
4. other goods (for air travellers) up to a total value of EUR 430.- per traveller.

Prohibited:
All personal consignments of meat, meat products, milk and milk products, originated in non-E.U. countries, are prohibited to enter Belgium with the exception of:
1.powdered infant milk, infant food and special foods required for medical reasons provided that:
- the product does not require refrigeration before consumption;
- it is a packaged brand product;
- the packaging is unbroken.
2. personal consignments from the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland with a combined total weight that does not exceed 5 kg.
3. personals consignments from Andorra, Norway and San Marino.
4. upon arrival; when goods are declared by an authorized E.U. border inspection post for veterinary control. Goods must be accompanied by the necessary documentation from the official veterinary services of the country of origin, stating that the goods conform to the requirements for entry into the E.U.
Note:
-
Up to 1 kg, of other food from animal origin, if authorized, can be imported, without submitting it for veterinary control.
- Other unpreserved food must be declared.

Arms and Ammunition regulations::

Passengers carrying firearms and ammunition into or out of Belgium need to contact the transporting carrier prior to departure.

Belgium is a member of the CITES Treaty.

Export regulations::

Free export
1.Goods imported by the traveller into Belgium;
2.Goods purchased or obtained in Belgium for private use, up to a value of EUR 619.73.
Some restrictions for antiques of great or historical value.

Pets::

1. Cats and dogs are subject to special regulations (EC) No. 998/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council. For more information contact Belgium embassy.
2. Parrots and parakeets: birds of the lory, parrot, budgerigar, ara, cockatoo and other species of the family psittacidae. The importation, transit and re-importation of live birds of    these species are allowed at the rate of two per family or person travelling alone. This is on condition that the bird(s) are accompanied by a signed statement no older than 2 months issued by the veterinary service of the country from which the birds are imported, certifying that they have been submitted for examination by a member of the family or by the person travelling alone and have been found free of fowl plaque, Newcastle disease, cholera, psittacosis, pullorum disease and Pacheco's disease.
Additional Information:
1. When any requirement has not been observed the cat or dog will be vaccinated on arrival.
2. No import restrictions for transportation of cats and dogs within the territory of the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg).
3. When imported from the United Kingdom, vaccination against rabies is not required, but the health certificate attesting that the animal has no symptoms of rabies and is of good health, may, on entry, not be older than 8 days.

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Belgium.
Exempt:
1. Baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside Belgium;
2. Baggage of passengers who embarked in another E.U. country.



Airport Embarkation Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Same regulations as for export apply.

Currency Export regulations:

Local(Euro - EUR) and Foreign currencies:
1. No restrictions if arriving from or traveling to another E.U. country.
2. If arriving from or traveling to a country outside the E.U.: amounts exceeding EUR 10,000.- or the equivalent in another currency (incl. banker's draft and cheques of any kind) must be declared.
