Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Free import by persons of 17 years or older:
- 200 cigarettes or 1/2 lb. of tobacco or equivalent (not applicable to passengers whose journey commenced in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan);
- 1 bottle (quart) of spirits or 1 bottle (quart) of wine (not applicable to passengers whose journey commenced in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan);
- perfume and toiletwater: 1/12 gallon, of which not more than a quarter may be perfume.
Note: these concessions do not apply to passengers whose journey commenced in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
Arms and Ammunition regulations::
Import and export of firearms must be supported by a permit obtained from the relevant police authority.
An import permit should be obtained from the country of destination and an export permit from the country of departure.
Passengers must inform their nearest carrier office of their intention to transport the weapon when reservation is being made.
Also, details of the weapon must be provided at least 2 weeks prior to departure.
These requirements apply also to weapons transiting Brunei. Weapons will be detained in Brunei at the airport police stations until the necessary documentation is produced.
The weapons will have to be handed over to the airline check-in staff during check-in and will be returned to the passenger upon arrival at destination.
Export regulations::
Free export of any articles except those of an antique or historical nature made or discovered in Brunei.
Pets::
Pets must be shipped as manifested cargo and an import licence, obtained prior to arrival from the Agricultural Department is required for all animals and birds.
Cats and dogs must be accompanied by an additional veterinarian good health certificate issued at point of origin, together with anti-rabies inoculation certificate stating that the animal was vaccinated 60 days at the latest prior to arrival.
180 days quarantine is applicable to all cats and dogs imported from countries other than Australia, Ireland (Rep. of), New Zealand, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and the United Kingdom. However, as quarantine accommodation is very limited, passengers whose pet is subject to quarantine, should check the availability with the State Veterinary Officer, Office of The Director of Agriculture, Brunei, before dispatch.
Baggage Clearance regulations::
Baggage is cleared at the airport of Brunei.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Brunei, provided the passengers do not leave the transit area and the onward flight is within 24 hours.
Airport Embarkation Tax
Passenger Service Charge is levied on all passengers embarking at Brunei International Airport:
1. BND 5.-for travel to: "Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-AEGA)" points, such as:
a.in Indonesia: Balikpapan, Tarakan, Manado, Pontianak.
b.in Malaysia: Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Labuan, Miri Bintulu, Mulu;
c.in Philippines: Davao, General Santos, Puerto Princesa, Zamboanga.
2. BND 12.-for all other destinations.
Place of payment: Brunei International Airport.
Exempt:
1.Children under 2 years of age (if they do not occupy an own seat).
2. Transit passengers remaining in the transit hall.
Currency rules
Currency Import regulations:
Local currency (Brunei Dollar-BND): no restrictions.
Foreign currencies:
1. Banknotes of Singapore: up to the equivalent of BND 1,000.- no restrictions between Brunei/Singapore on direct import/export of currency.
2. Banknotes of India: Prohibited;
3. Other foreign currencies: no restrictions.
Currency Export regulations:
1. Residents:
a. Local currency (Brunei Dollar-BND) and Singapore currency banknotes: up to BND 1,000.- or equivalent.
(no restrictions on direct import/export of Brunei and Singapore currency notes from/to Singapore).
b. Foreign currencies:
-. Sterling notes up to GBP 15.-.
-. Other currencies to a maximum of BND 350.-. Higher amounts in traveller's cheques or letters of credit.
2. Non residents:
a. Local currency and Singapore currency banknotes: up to BND 1,000.- or equivalent (no restrictions on direct import/export of Brunei and Singapore currency notes from/to Singapore);
b. Other foreign currencies: up to the amount imported and declared.
