Customs Rules

Import regulations::

Free import by passengers over 18 years of age:
- 80 cigarettes or 3 1/2 ounces of tobacco;
- 1 1/2 liter (2 bottles) of liquor or spirits.
Perfume: no restrictions.

Arms and Ammunition regulations::

An import license or a temporary transportation permit issued by the DIGECAM (Direccion General de Control de Armas y Municiones) must be obtained prior to arrival. For further details please refer to: http://www.digecam.mil.gt

Pets::

Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a government licensed veterinarian health certificate. If they arrive from rabies infected areas the health certificate must state that the animals have been vaccinated against rabies less than one year and 30 days at the latest prior to arrival. Moreover dogs must be accompanied by a vaccination certificate against parvovirus. Only pedigreed pets are duty free.

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Guatemala if:
- baggage is labeled accordingly; and
- (in case of transit only) the airport of final destination is an international airport; and
- (in case of transit only) the onward flight is on the same calendar day.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside Guatemala if:
- the baggage is labeled to that destination; and
- the onward flight is on the same calendar day.



Airport Embarkation Tax

Airport Security Tax of GTQ 20.- or USD 3.- is levied on all passengers.
Exempt:
1. Passengers in transit.
2. Holders of diplomatic and official passports.
3. Holders of "U.N. Laissez-Passer".



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Foreign currencies: no restrictions. Prohibited: local currency (Guatemala Quetzal-GTQ).

Currency Export regulations:

Nationals of Guatemala and residents: foreign currencies: up to the equivalent of GTQ 2500.-.
Prohibited: local currency (Guatemala Quetzal-GTQ) .

Other passengers: foreign currencies: no restrictions.
Prohibited: local currency (Guatemala Quetzal-GTQ) .

Re-exchange of GTQ into foreign currency allowed up to the equivalent of USD 100.-.
