Customs Rules

Import regulations::

Free import by passengers over 18 years of age:
- 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos, or 25 cigars or 250g of tobacco;
- 1 litre or spitis or 4 litres of wine or 1 case (not exceeding 9 litres) of beer.
Prohibited: base or counterfeit coins, instruments and appliances for gambling, controlled drugs and utensils used therewith.

Arms and Ammunition regulations::

A permit issued by the commissioner of police/district commissioner is required for the import of firearms, ammunition and explosives (other than gunpowder and blasting powder).

Export regulations::

Prohibited: The export of lobster, conch or conch meat is prohibited (unless in transit).

Crew members customs regulations::

Same regulations as for passengers apply.

Pets::

Birds, cats and dogs need a permit from the Cayman Islands Dept. of Agriculture. Cats and dogs will only be permitted to enter when aged ten months or older. Please see www.caymanislandscustoms.com for full details.
Prohibited:
- no animal of any description may be imported from any country in Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Dominican Rep.;
- the following breeds or cross-breeds of dogs, including genetic material:
Mallanois, Rottweiller, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brazileiro, Chinese Shar-Pei, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Akita, Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bull Dog, Dogue de Bordeaux, Mastiff (all types).

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in the Cayman Islands.
Exempt: 
- baggage of transit passengers with a final destination in Cayman Brac, which is cleared at the airport of that destination. However, this arrangement is subject to review.
- baggage of transit passengers on Cubana flights, which is often cleared "en bloc" by a ground agent.



Airport Embarkation Tax

Departure Tax: is levied on all passengers leaving the Cayman Islands: KYD 20.- or USD 25.-.
Exempt:
1. Children under 12 years of age;
2. Transit passengers who continue their journey within 24 hours;
3. Crew members.



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (Cayman Islands Dollar-KYD): no restrictions.
Foreign currencies: Jamaican currency: up to JAD 20. - per person. 
Other foreign currencies: no restrictions.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Cayman Islands Dollar-KYD) and foreign currencies: no restrictions.
