Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Free import by passengers of 16 years of age and over
- 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 gm. of tobacco;
- 1 litre of spirits and 2 litres of wine, ale or beer;
- a small quantity of perfume and about 25 cl. of toilet water.
Wild Fauna and Flora::
Plants and plant material including cuttings, flowers, bulbs, fresh fruit, vegetables and seeds: plant import permit previously obtained from Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Environment. All plant material must be declared to Customs immediately on arrival and is subject to examination.
Prohibited: sugarcane and parts thereof; fresh fruit from Asia East of 60% longitude including India and Pakistan, soil and micro-organisms.
Pets::
All animals incl. animal material need an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Environment Mauritius, obtained in advance and a sanitary certificate from the country of origin. All animals must be declared to Customs immediately on arrival and landing is only allowed if the certificate issued by the Veterinary Authorities of the exporting country is in conformity with the Import Permit. Quarantine: dogs and cats: 6 months; birds: 3 weeks. Prohibited: dogs and cats coming from areas within 100 km. radius of where rabies has occurred during the past 12 months; invertebrate animals.
Baggage Clearance regulations::
Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in Mauritius.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Mauritius, provided the passengers do not leave the transit area.
Airport Embarkation Tax
No airport tax is levied on passengers on embarkation at the airport.
