Customs Rules

Export regulations::

Restrictions exist only on "Pets". An authorization is required from the "Ministerio de Agricultura" (Ministry of Agriculture).

Pets::

Passengers arriving with pet cats and dogs must:
1. Present to the Veterinarian of the Zoonoses Control Dept. at Panama City, Tocumen International (PTY):
- Export certificate mentioning rabies vaccination, issued by the Veterinary Authority at country of origin, and
- Health certificate, legalized by Panamanian consul from country of origin, and
- Rabies vaccination certificate.
2. Request (home) quarantine by sending arrival and pet’s details, 3 working days prior to arrival, to the Panamanian Ministry of Health. Fee: USD 146.- per pet, paid in cash upon arrival.

The Zoonoses Control Dept. is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 23:00. Pets arriving outside these hours or on public holidays will be kept in kennels at the airport.
Note: transporting airlines are held responsible for returning pets which do not complying with above listed requirements, to the country of origin.

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Panama, provided it is an international airport with customs facilities.

Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Panama, provided continuing on the same international flight.



Airport Embarkation Tax

Airport Tax is levied on all passengers departing from Panama: USD 40.-.
Place of payment: Airport of departure, or included in the ticket.



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (Panama Balboa -PAB: in coins only; US Dollar (USD) is the local currency in banknotes) and foreign currencies: no restrictions. USD 1.- equals PAB 1.-.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Panama Balboa -PAB: in coins only; US Dollar (USD) is the local currency in banknotes) and foreign currencies: no restrictions. USD 1.- equals PAB 1.-.
