Customs Rules

Import regulations::

Free import to passengers arriving with goods purchased within the EU which are for personal use only:
1. tobacco products (for passengers aged 18 and over) of up to:
- 800 cigarettes;
- 400 cheroots;
- 200 cigars;
- 1 kilogram of pipe/cigarette tobacco;
2. alcoholic beverages (for passengers aged 20 years and older) of up to:
- 10 liters of spirits over 22%;
- 20 liters of intermediate products (e.g. fortified wine);
- 90 liters of wine (though no more than 60 liters of sparkling wine)
- 110 liters of beer.

For passengers arriving from non-EU Member States (including the Aland Islands, Canary Islands and similar territories):
If being a resident of Sweden, the right to duty and tax free importation only applies if:
- the traveler arrives on a commercial flight; or
- the trip abroad exceeds 20 hours; or
- the alcohol has been taxed on the Aland Islands or in Norway;
1. tobacco products (for passengers aged 18 and over) of up to:
- 200 cigarettes; or
- 100 cheroots; or
- 50 cigars;
- 250 grams of tobacco; or
- proportional selection of these tobacco products;
2. alcoholic beverages (for passengers aged 20 years and older) of up to:
- 1 liter of spirits over 22% volume, or non-denatured ethyl alcohol with more than 80% volume; or
- 2 liters of spirits or aperitifs made of wine or similar beverages less than 22% volume, or sparkling wines or liquor wines; or
- a proportional mix of these products; and in addition
- 4 liters still wine; and
- 16 liters of beer;
3. medications for personal use;
4. other goods (for air travelers) up to a total value of SEK 4,000.-.

Products of animal origin, not originating from an EU Member State , Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino or Switzerland, are not permitted to be imported into an EU Member State, with the exception of limited amounts from Andorra, Faroe Isl., Greenland, Iceland and small amounts of specific products from other countries.

Certain plants and plant products entering the EU must have an original phytosanitary certificate (see www.ec.europa.eu/food/plant/plant_health_biosecurity). These items must be declared on arrival and are subject to phytosanitary checks.

Arms and Ammunition regulations::

Firearms and ammunition may not be brought into or taken out of Sweden without a permit. Before arrival, travelers must have applied for and been issued with an import permit by the Swedish Police and if arriving from an EU Member State , they must also present a European Firearms Pass issued in the country of residence. Exempt from the import permit are:
- holders of a Swedish Arms License;
- travelers from Denmark, Finland and Norway when bringing firearms for hunting or competition purposes, if they have an Arms License issued in their own country and the arms are brought in for a period not exceeding 3 months.

Passengers traveling with sporting weapons to Sweden and onwards within Sweden must declare it with Customs at the first point of arrival.

Prohibited: It is not allowed at all to import, export or transfer arms and ammunition to or from Afghanistan, Belarus, Central African Rep., Congo (Dem. Rep.), Eritrea, Iraq, Korea (Dem. People's Rep.), Lebanon, Lybia, Myanmar, Russian Fed., Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Zimbabwe.

Additional Information on regulations::

Medicines (for medical reasons and personal use only, including medicine for pets traveling with a passenger which have been prescribed by a veterinary surgeon):
- for prescription drugs (not classified as narcotics):
- from a country within the EEA, the equivalent of one year use is allowed;
- from a country outside the EEA, the equivalent of three months use is allowed;
- for medicines classified as narcotics:
- if the drugs are listed in the Medical Product Agency List II or III: the equivalent of 5 days each time you enter Sweden is allowed;
- if the drugs are listed in the Medical Product Agency List IV or V: the equivalent of three weeks use is allowed. If the traveler is a foreign resident and is in Sweden only temporarily, then they may bring enough for the duration of the stay to a max. of three months;

Foodstuffs: permission to bring in foodstuffs of animal origin for private consumption is given only by the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

Pets::

Dogs and cats (for detailed information visit www.sjv.se):
- arriving from Norway: no restrictions apply if directly imported;
- arriving from all other countries are subject to special Regulation (EC) No. 998/2003 and Regulation (EU) 576/2013;
- under certain conditions, licenses for the import of puppies and kittens younger than three months, not vaccinated against rabies can be granted for animals born in rabies free countries. Contact the Pets Helpdesk: tel.: +46-771-223-223; email: hundochkatt@sjv.se;
- arriving from countries other than EU Member States EEU or the low-risk third countries mentioned below shall be kept in quarantine for at least 120 days.
Thereafter the pet shall be kept isolated from other animals for 60 days: Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Ascension Isl., Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius, Canada, Cayman Isl., Croatia, Curacao, Falkland Isl., Fiji, French Polynesia, Jamaica, Japan, Liechtenstein, Mauritius, Monaco, Montserrat, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Singapore, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Maarten, St. Pierre and Miquelon, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Switzerland, USA, Vanuatu, Vatican City (Holy See), Wallis and Futuna Isl. Birds are subject to Decision (EC) No. 25/2007Customs Pets . Pets may enter as passenger's checked baggage, in the cabin or as cargo.

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage, for passengers arriving at Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) and Gothenburg (GOT) on international SAS, Nextjet (2N), Thai Airways International (TG) or Air China (CA) operated flights and connecting with any SAS (SK) or Nextjet (2N) operated flights within Sweden, is cleared at the airport of final destination in Sweden.
Baggage, for passengers arriving at Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), Stockholm Bromma (BMA) and Gothenburg (GOT) on international Finnair (AY) operated flights and connecting with flights within Sweden, except connecting flights to Hagfors (HFS), Torsby (TYF) and Oskarshamn (OSK), is cleared at the airport of final destination in Sweden.
Baggage, for passengers arriving at Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), Gothenburg (GOT) and Linkoping (LPI) on international KLM (KL) operated flights and connecting with flights within Sweden, is cleared at the airport of final destination in Sweden.
Baggage, for passengers arriving at Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) on international Emirates (EK) operated flights and connecting with flights within Sweden, is cleared at the airport of final destination in Sweden.

Exempt: special baggage such as live animals and firearms, which must be cleared at Arlanda.

In all other cases, baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in Sweden when disembarking.

Exempt: those transiting from an international flight to another international flight.



Airport Embarkation Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Same regulations as for Export apply (see: Export).

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Swedish Krona-SEK) and foreign currencies: no restrictions if arriving from or traveling to another EU Member State .
If arriving directly from or traveling to a country outside the EU: amounts exceeding EUR 10,000.- or more or the equivalent in another currency (incl. banker's draft and cheques of any kind) must be declared.
