Customs Rules

Import regulations::

Free import (no limits):
1. of cigarettes by residents and non-residents of 18 years or older;
2. of distilled beverages and/or wine by residents and non-residents of 18 years or older;
3. of perfume;
4. of (gift) articles.

Arms and Ammunition regulations::

Import permit, issued by Ministry of Justice, is required.

Wild Fauna and Flora::

The import of certain endangered species of plant, live animals and their products is prohibited or restricted under CITES.

Export regulations::

Free export of any quantity of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.

Crew members customs regulations::

Same regulations as for passengers apply.

Pets::

Import permit required from the department of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (tel. +1-721-542-5641).
Cats, dogs, parrots and parakeets must be accompanied by a veterinarian good health certificate issued at point of origin, max. 14 days prior to arrival. Furthermore, cats and dogs are required to have an electronic identification chip (microchip) implanted and be inoculated against rabies. These vaccinations must be administered at least 30 days prior to arrival.
Prohibited:
- dogs and cats younger than 13 weeks of age.
- dogs and cats from Central and South America, except from Suriname (also in transit).
- pit-bull terrier type dogs.
- birds from areas not declared as free of Avian influenza.

Baggage Clearance regulations::

Baggage is cleared at the airport of St. Maarten if it is labeled accordingly.



Airport Embarkation Tax

Airport departure tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation to any destination abroad.
Place of payment: St. Maarten Airport (SXM), or included in the ticket. Exempt:
1. Children under 2 years of age;
2. transit passengers not arriving from Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba or St. Eustatius;
3. transit passengers arriving and departing the same day.



Currency rules

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency: (Antillian Guilder-ANG) and foreign currencies: amounts exceeding USD 11,000.- or its equivalent must be declared.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency: (Antillian Guilder-ANG) and foreign currencies: amounts exceeding USD 11,000.- or its equivalent must be declared.
