Import regulations:

Free import by tourists over 15 years of age:
- 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 25 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco;
- 1 bottle of wine and 1 bottle of spirits;
- 1/2 liter of eau de toilette and 1/4 liter of perfume.

Wild Fauna and Flora:

The import of certain endangered species of plant, live animals and their products is prohibited or restricted under CITES.

Cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate and rabies vaccination certificate, issued at point of origin.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at Cotonou (COO).

Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Benin.


Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (CFA Franc-XOF): no restrictions.
Foreign currencies: no restrictions, if declared on arrival.

Currency Export regulations:

1. Residents:
a. Local currency (CFA Franc-XOF):
-if traveling to countries within the French monetary area: no restrictions.
-if traveling to countries outside the French monetary area: up to XOF 75,000.-.
b. Foreign currencies: up to the equivalent of XOF 150,000.-.
For higher amounts a special authorization of the "Office des Changes" is required.
2. Non-Residents:
a. Local currency:
- Residents of EU Member States : unlimited;
- Residents of other countries: amount must be declared (proof of origin might be requested).
b. Foreign currencies: up to the equivalent of XOF 100,000.-.

Airport Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
