Import regulations:

Free import of:
1. 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco products;
2. 1 liter of wine or spirits;
3. gifts and souvenirs up to BZD 200.- per person or max. BZD 600.- per family;
4. personal effects.

Arms and Ammunition regulations:

Carriers are required to contact their respective country manager to obtain clearance to board passengers traveling with firearms and ammunition.

Additional Information on regulations:

The import of agricultural produce, plants, meat and meat products, processed foods, live animals and veterinary drugs are subject to restrictions or are prohibited. Before bringing such items into Belize, contact the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA).


Cats and dogs require an import permit from the Agriculture Department Belmopan, Belize, attn. Chief Agricultural Officer, a General Health Certificate (issued within the last 14 days) and a rabies shots certificate (issued not less than 1 month or more than 1 year prior to date of importation). This certificate can be included in the General Health Certificate.
Birds are subject to CITES regulations and require a health certificate. A permit from Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) must be obtained prior to arrival.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in Belize.


Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (Belize Dollar-BZD) BZD and foreign currencies: up to BZD 20,000.- or equivalent. Higher amounts must be declared on arrival.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Belize Dollar-BZD) and foreign currencies: up to BZD 20,000.- or equivalent. In case of higher amounts: up to the amount imported and declared.

Airport Tax

Departure Tax is levied on passengers leaving Belize:
- USD 17.50.- for nationals of Belize and alien residents of Belize;
- USD 55.50.- for all other passengers.
