Import regulations:

Free import:
1. 200 cigarettes or 225 grams of tobacco or cigars;
2. 1 bottle of spirits and 1 bottle of wine, each not exceeding 1 liter (only for persons of 21 years of age or over).


Cats and dogs may only be imported from Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. They must be accompanied by an import permit obtained at least one month in advance of shipment from Chief Agricultural Officer P.O. Box 267, Bikenibeu, Tarawa. Cats and dogs in transit are not permitted to leave the aircraft.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at the airport of entry in Kiribati.

Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Kiribati if no change of flight is involved.

local currency (Australian Dollar-AUD) and foreign currencies: no restrictions.

Airport Tax

Airport Tax is levied on all passengers embarking in Kiribati: AUD 20.-.
Place of payment: airport of departure.
1. Children under 2 years of age.
2. Transit passengers not leaving the airport and continuing their journey by the same aircraft.
