Customs

Import regulations:

Free import by passengers over 18 years of age:
- 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos, or 25 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco;
- 1 liter or spirits or 4 liters of wine or 1 case (not exceeding 9 liters) of beer;
- personal effects;
- only applicable to residents of Cayman Isl.: goods up to a total value of Cayman Isl. Dollar-KYD 500.-.

Exceeding allowances must be declared on arrival.

Arms and Ammunition regulations:

A permit issued by the commissioner of police/district commissioner is required for the import of firearms, ammunition and explosives (other than gunpowder and blasting powder).

Wild Fauna and Flora:

The import of certain endangered species of plant, live animals and their products is prohibited under CITES.

Additional Information on regulations:

1. Prohibited: base or counterfeit coins, instruments and appliances for gambling, controlled drugs and utensils used therewith. Plants or plant products require a phytosanitary certificate.
2. Meat or meat products require a certificate of Wholesomeness. Import of these products and live animals must be declared to Customs and are subject to inspection by the Department of Agriculture. Export regulations:

Prohibited: The export of lobster, conch or conch meat is prohibited (unless in transit).

Crew members customs regulations:

Same regulations as for passengers apply.

Pets:

Birds, cats and dogs require:
1. an Import Permit issued by the Cayman Isl. Department of Agriculture. Applications should be done preferably by email to [email protected]. Passengers can apply for either a Single Entry Import Permit valid for 14 days from the date of the official Health Certificate or Multiple Entry Import Permit/Cayman Islands Animal Passport valid for a period of one year; and
2. an official Veterinary Health Certificate, issued by a licensed veterinarian accredited by the official government authority of the exporting country. If not accredited, the veterinary health certificate will need to be endorsed by a veterinarian in full-time employment of the official government authority. The health certificate is valid for 14 days starting from the date of issue.

Prohibited:
- no animal of any description may be imported from any country in Asia, Africa, Central and South America;
- the following breeds or cross-breeds of dogs, including genetic material: Dogo Argentino, Fila Brazileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in the Cayman Isl.
Exempt:
- baggage of transit passengers with a final destination in Cayman Brac, which is cleared at the final destination.
- baggage of transit passengers on Cubana flights.


Currency

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (Cayman Isl. Dollar-KYD): no restrictions.
Other foreign currencies: no restrictions.
Amounts exceeding KYD 15,000.- or equivalent must be declared on arrival.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Cayman Isl. Dollar-KYD) and foreign currencies: no restrictions.


Airport Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
