Customs

Import regulations:

Free import:
1. to passengers aged older than 17 years:
- 2 liters of spirits of 22% or below; or
- 1 liter of spirits over 22%; and
- 2 liters of wine; or
- 12 x 340 milliliters bottles or cans of beer; and
2. to passengers aged older than 15:
- 250 milliliters of perfume or eau de toilette; and
- 200 cigarettes; or
- 250 grams of other tobacco products.
3. Personal clothing and effects may be imported, as long as they accompany the visitor when leaving St. Helena.

Prohibited:
- fruit;
- vegetables and plant material, unless accompanied by an import license issued by the St. Helena Biosecurity Service and in compliance with the required importation health standards;
- honey, bees and some associated products;
- obscene items or pornographic literature and films.

Arms and Ammunition regulations:

Ammunition and sporting weapons are prohibited unless accompanied by a valid license issued in advance by the St. Helena Chief of Police.

The importation of archery equipment and spear guns is restricted.

Pets:

Cats and dogs can only be imported from Ascension Isl., Ireland (Rep.) and United Kingdom. An import license is required and can be obtained from the St. Helena Biosecurity Service. The importer must supply:
- contact details;
- name, breed, sex and age of the animal;
- microchip number of the animal;
- a signed declaration form.
The import of the following breeds, or cross breeds of dogs is prohibited: Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero, Japanese Tosa and Pit Bull Terrier.
Prohibited: monkeys and parrots. For all other birds, insects or live fish, the St. Helena Veterinary Services must be contacted prior to travel.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at St. Helena airport.
Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with an onward international destination, if it is labeled to that destination.


Currency

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (St. Helena Pound - SHP ) and foreign currencies: amounts exceeding SHP 6,000.- or more or the equivalent in another currency (incl. banker's draft and cheques of any kind) must be declared.
The British Pound (GBP) is accepted in St. Helena and is on a parity with the St. Helena Pound. There are no ATMs (cash dispensers) available in St. Helena.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (St. Helena Pound - SHP ) and foreign currencies: there are no restrictions.


Airport Tax

No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport.
