Customs

Import regulations:

Free import:
1. for all passengers:
- personal effects and clothing for own use;
2. for passengers aged over 18 years:
- 250 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 25 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco; and
- 2.25 liters of spirits or 2.25 liters of wine or 9 liters of beer; and
- 250 milliliters of eau de toilette or 100 milliliters of perfume; and
- other articles up to a value of VUV 50,000.- per person.

Arms and Ammunition regulations:

Import permit, issued by Vanuatu Police Force, required.

Wild Fauna and Flora:

The import of certain endangered species of plant, live animals and their products is prohibited or restricted under CITES.

Additional Information on regulations:

Fruit, plants, meat (also if chilled), fish or shellfish imported by individual passengers for personal use require a permit in advance from the Plant Quarantine of the Veterinary Service of the Vanuatu Department of Agriculture.

Pets:

Cats and dogs require:
1. an import permit, issued by the Vanuatu Quarantine and Inspection Service;
2. a veterinary certificate issued by a veterinarian in country of origin;
3. an internal and external parasite treatment carried out at least 5 days prior to arrival. Must be verified by a veterinarian.
The Vanuatu Quarantine and Inspection Service must be informed 24 hours prior to arrival.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

Baggage is cleared at the airport of final destination in Vanuatu if it is an international airport.

Exempt: baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside of Vanuatu if the onward flight is within 2 hours and the passengers do not leave the transit area.


Currency

Currency Import regulations:

Local currency (Vanuatu Vatu-VUV) and foreign currencies: no restrictions. However, amounts over VUV 1,000,000.- (or equivalent) must be declared.

Currency Export regulations:

Local currency (Vanuatu Vatu-VUV) and foreign currencies: no restrictions. However, amounts over VUV 1,000,000.- (or equivalent) must be declared.


Airport Tax

Airport Tax is levied on passengers embarking for international flights. Fee: VUV 2,800.-.
Place of payment: At the point of ticket issuance or at the airport of departure in Vanuatu.
Exempt: Infants and children under 12 years of age.
