Customs Rules

Import regulations

Free import by non-residents older than 15 years (residents may import half the duty free quantities). If more is imported the whole quantity is dutiable
1. 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos (of 3 grammes each); or 50 cigars or 250 grammes of tobacco;
2. 1 litre of distilled beverages or 2 litres of wine;
3. (gift) articles for personal use up to a value of ANG 400.-.

Additional Information on regulations

1. Perfume no restrictions.
2. If the total value of the goods per passenger exceeds ANG 400.-, declaration should be made on customs forms and cleared at the freight department.
3. The importation of leather articles from Haiti is not advisable.

Export regulations

Free export of any quantity of tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.

Pets

Permission to import pets must be obtained prior to travel. Cats, dogs, parrots and parakeets must be accompanied by a veterinarian good health certificate issued at point of origin, max. 14 days prior to arrival. Furthermore, cats and dogs are required to have an electronic identification chip (microchip) implanted and be inocculated against rabies. These vaccinations must be administered at least 30 days prior to arrival.
Prohibited
- dogs and cats younger than 13 weeks of age.
- dogs and cats from Central and South America, except from Suriname (also in transit).
- pit-bull terrier type dogs.
- birds from areas not declared as free of Avian influenza.

Baggage Clearance regulations

Baggage is cleared at the airport of St. Maarten, provided it is labeled accordingly.



Airport tax

Airport departure tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation to any destination abroad: USD 10.- (surrounding islands) or USD 30.- (other destinations) (equivalent in local currency accepted).
Place of payment: St. Maarten Airport (SXM), or included in the ticket. Exempt:
1. Children under 2 years of age;
2. transit passengers not arriving from Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba or St. Eustatius;
3. transit passengers arriving and departing the same day.

Local currency: (Antillian Guilder-ANG) and foreign currencies: amounts exceeding ANG 20,000.- or its equivalent must be declared.
